Last week during a very special three day grand opening celebration, Shaker Pointe welcomed a new era of community growth. The week began with an official celebration with both Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger and Bishop Howard J. Hubbard, Bishop Emeritus in attendance. Also in attendance, the Christian Brothers Academy Marching Band with their special rendition of a Shaker Pointe Fanfare. Composed by Shaker Pointe Resident Ann Kurpski, the upbeat notes helped set the tone of the excitement and festivities to follow. The grand opening set the stage for a new chapter celebrating the opening of 68 new apartment homes a a vibrant new 40,000 square foot community center. In telling the story of Shaker Pointe, Executive Team Member Lauren Van Dermark said it best, “It takes a cast of characters to build a community.” In addition, this extension of the community was recently awarded LEED platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Tuesday we were delighted to have Dr. Roger Landry, MD, MPH present, “The formula for aging happily in America,” based on his book, Live Long, Die Short: A guide to Authentic Health and Successful Aging. Dr. Landry is a preventive medicine physician who specializes in building environments which empower older adults to maximize their unique potential. The following clip details one of Dr. Landry’s key points on successful aging.
